Unpacking is a puzzle game that lasts around 3 hours. I played it because it has been nominated for awards and because friends recommended it, but it is only a game I’ll half-remember with all the other middling things. It was neither here nor there so it never stayed present enough in my memory. It will exist on the bookshelf for the rest of time like a prop, no longer a book. Sometimes I’ll read a book that fills an afternoon quite nicely but I know that a year on, I won’t be able to tell you anything about it. Sometimes a meal I eat will only be fine, like I’ll finish the whole thing but I wouldn’t cook it for a visitor, wouldn’t crave it. I keep thinking about the headline on that recent interview with Kim Catrall where she said ‘I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself.’ It has become a meme amongst my friends, and I love the sentiment but I simply do not have the energy or the imagination to keep up that kind of lifestyle. But I am fine living a life where not every little thing is amazing. I am supposed to be a critic so I should probably seek out the best for myself, or something like that.

The cheese and grapes were great but the TV show I inhaled, with its noncommittal storytelling, was only fine.Īnd the thing is, I’m sort of okay with fine at the moment. It landed somewhere just below the middle in the ranking of all the culture I’ve ever spent time with. I didn’t hate it enough to turn it off, though. I didn’t love it, I would never watch it again, and to be honest I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else. My eyes were open and I let it happen to me. So, I might be exaggerating when I say I didn’t enjoy it.
In Netflix’s defence, I did watch the whole thing. It was an acceptable scene… I just wasn’t having the time of my life. I was lying on my side on the couch, I had cheese and grapes, and the cat was sleeping over my hip. Last week, there was one evening I felt so worn down with fatigue that I watched the entirety of season 2 of Emily in Paris without pausing it and also without enjoying it.
Some days are forgotten as soon as they are done.

Unpacking will look to provide the same laid-back energy and nuanced narrative that has made it a success on other platforms when it arrives on the PS4 and PS5 possibly in the near future.Some nights do not go down in history. April has already seen the release of popular indie games Lake and Nobody Saves the World, and Devolver Digital and developer Flying Wild Hog's highly-anticipated Trek to Yomi is set to launch on the consoles early next month. Unpacking's likely release on PS4 and PS5 in the coming weeks would join a stacked lineup of indie games set to hit Sony's consoles throughout the spring. However, it's worth noting that no official announcement has been made by Witch Beam or publisher Humble Games about a set release date for Unpacking's PS4 and PS5 versions. For example, the PS5 indie game Mortal Shell previously saw its PS5 trophy list leaked less than two weeks before its release on March 4th. PSNProfiles revealing the trophy list for Unpacking heavily suggests that the game's release will come in the near future, with other early trophy lists similarly hinting at a game's expedited release.

While fans may not be able to see the full list for the PlayStation versions, the similar number to other versions suggests that the Sony platforms will feature similar trophies to its PC and Xbox counterparts. The updated list shows a total of 26 obtainable trophies through playing Unpacking on PSN, though all trophies outside of the game's Platinum trophy are currently listed as Secret.

Now, as Unpacking prepares to make the jump to the PS4 and PS5, the game's trophy list on both consoles has surfaced online. Witch Beam's second-ever game release sold over 100,000 copies within only a week and a half of the game's November 2021 debut and took home several accolades from other game awards shows, with critics praising the game's narrative and audio design. While Unpacking missed out on last year's Game Awards, the game has already seen modest success for a relatively new developer.
